dfw lavanderia
DFW Lavanderia:
The DFW Lavanderia project was brought to us by a good client of ours, the only requests from him were: I want bubbles and to be called DFW Lavanderia.
The small amount of information combined with no distinct direction made for a rather difficult start. The best thing about the project was we had no specific budget nor limit. We decided on making it fun and playful, this seems simple and elementary but making something that could entertain people while doing such a mundane task as washing. Along the east side of the interior there is a large mural that runs 5.5 feet by almost 100 feet of images, type and illustrations in both English and Spanish as the demographic and the location make it so that a little 50% of the customers will speak at the very least Spanish.
On the opposing wall there are large prints roughly 4 feet by 5 feet of various countries around south america. The prints are applied on PVC substrate on stand offs and in the spaces in between there are various quotes in both languages made of adhesive vinyl and PVC substrate adhered directly to the was.
Lastly in the small room next to the rear exit there are aluminium composite panels on stand offs with half inch PVC substrate that we cut on a CNC router to create 3D decorative typography. Needless to say this project was more about expanding the limits of what we could do with different materials and integrate them. The experimentation has payed off as we get compliments when we go visit and the customers are amused at the designs and the distinctiveness of this particular laundromat compared to most.
